EDC Hires O'Neil as Director of Publishing

NEWTON, MA – Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC) has announced the appointment of David G. O'Neil as EDC's Director of Publishing. O'Neil will work with EDC project staff to identify and collaborate with publishers and other outlets for EDC’s intellectual property, which includes research studies, professional development resources for teachers, videos, software, and large-scale curricula, such as Mathscape, Math Workshop, Teenage Health Teaching Modules, and Foundations, a high school science curriculum.

“We are pleased to welcome David O'Neil to EDC," said Janet Whitla, EDC President. "EDC creates and publishes a diverse array of research-based products, and David's background and expertise in product development, strategic planning, and business development will help expand our efforts to publish and market our ever-growing portfolio," she said.

O'Neil, 42, comes to EDC from Tom Snyder Productions, a division of Scholastic Inc., and a leading developer and publisher of K-12 educational software, most recently serving as Vice President of Product Development. As Director of Business Development, O'Neil managed distribution and development partnerships and negotiated deals with partners such as McGraw-Hill, Apple Computer and the American Museum of Natural History. During O'Neil’s 12-year career at Tom Snyder, he also served as an executive producer, developing innovative social studies software programs such as Decisions, Decisions 5.0, which garnered a Teacher's Choice Award.

A former high school teacher in Brooklyn and Providence, O'Neil holds a bachelor’s degree from American University and a Master of Theological Studies Degree from Harvard Divinity School. He lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
